The expansion of this popular recreational area, linked to Sharjah’s Khalid Lagoon, includes restaurants, stunning landscapes and a giant musical water feature, The Sharjah Fountain.
The Al Majaz Waterfront Project is an expansion and beautification of the existing park, going above and beyond merely extending greenery in order to enhance this family-friendly leisure area, a waterfront landmark of Sharjah. Situated between Jamal Abdul Nasser Street and the Khalid Lagoon Corniche, the final 231,000 sqm park is being completely re-developed to include leisure and recreational areas, including eight new buildings housing international restaurants and cafes, as well as the musical cybernetic Sharjah Fountain, a key feature of the project.
At over 20 years old, the park has long been a popular destination for residents of Sharjah and is home to a splendid mosque. The Al Majaz Waterfront project seeks to capitalise on the park’s role as a social hub by diversifying what it offers, including a new special area for children including new, safe games as well as commissioning notable names from the international design world to create new landscapes for the park.
The project is implemented in two phases. The first phase was inaugurated during a grand celebration by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah on 26thMarch, 2012. The waterfront, directly linked to Khalid Lagoon, includes a Jogging Track, ALWAN, Maraya Art Park, Splash Park and Mini Golf. As part of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq)’s commitment to fusing the traditional with the modern, Al Majaz Waterfront project incorporates the history and culture of Sharjah to create a unique sense of place, encouraging visitors of different cultures and backgrounds to interact.
