The Shurooq CEO noted that the Authority and the Sharjah Educational Council have been keen to organise a special celebration on the island where the UAE flag is flying on a 123 metre-high pole. The operetta 'The Story of a Flag ... A Nation's Dream' is dedicated to the UAE, its leaders and people, in celebration of the UAE's 42nd National Day. It involves an elite group of Emirati artists alongside male and female students from schools across Sharjah. Al Sarkal called all Emiratis and residents living in Sharjah and the UAE to join the grand ceremony to demonstrate their love and joy over the establishment of the UAE and its landmark achievements. The operetta, which will be exclusively staged on the Flag Island, features musical performances, whose lyrics were written by UAE poet Mosbeh Ali Al Kaabi, and composed by Khalid Nasser. It signifies the UAE people's love and loyalty towards their leaders and nation, as well as their pride in their wild, sea and mountainous environments where they lived and endured harsh living conditions before they managed to establish an advanced and successful country in all fields - a destination favoured by people from all over the world, for tourism, residence, and investment. On December 2, 2012, His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah - inaugurated Flag Island, which was developed by Shurooq in collaboration with the Sharjah Department of Public Works and a number of government bodies and departments, in celebration of the UAE's 41st National Day. Flag Island, located opposite Al Jazeera Park facing the line of government buildings in the emirate of Sharjah, is home to the 7th highest flagpole in the world where the UAE flag is flying on a 123 metre high pole. The flagpole is surrounded by breath-taking panoramic views of the landscape spread over 65 diameter circle embellished with red, purple and white petunia flowers, lavish areas of greenery as well as stylish interlocking of various colours and shapes.
