Shurooq's exhibit attracted large crowds and widespread praise
Shurooq's stand at this year's ATM attracted high levels of interest and widespread acclaim with numerous dignitaries and VIP's visiting the Authority's exhibition. Visitors of note included His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Chairman of Fujairah Culture and Media Authority, His Excellency Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Tourism Development Department and Head of the Ajman Ruler's Media Office, His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Media Corporation, His Excellency Mohammed Fayez Mostafa, Sri Lankan Tourism Minister, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of RAK Ports and Customs Department, His Excellency Sheikh Salem Bin Abdulrahman Al Qassimi, Director General of the Office of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, His Excellency Abdullah Mohammed Al Muwaijai, Chairman of Ajman Chamber, and His Excellency Ali Salem Al Midfa, Director General of the Sharjah International Airport Authority. The various high-level visitors expressed their admiration for efforts being made by Shurooq to develop Sharjah as a premier tourist destination as well as for the consistent excellence of the Authority's numerous developments. The design of Shurooq's exhibit, which featured attractive LCD displays of the Authority's various projects, also garnered across the board praise from its large number of visitors. Of special interest was the scale model of Shurooq's latest project, the development of Sir Bu Nuair Island, which generated high levels of interest amongst ATM's participants, with numerous travel agents and leisure professionals approaching to inquire about the project's details. The project, which was announced during a press conference held on the sidelines of the exhibition, marks the first integrated tourism project within the islands in the emirate of Sharjah. The island, which is one of the most important marine protected areas in the United Arab Emirates, will be developed into a unique island destination offering a mix of high-end luxury and comfort that captures the region's vibrancy and cultural heritage in its architecture and offerings and fosters a genuine sense of community. Speaking about their participation, His Excellency Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) CEO said, "ATM is one of the most important events on our calendar and this year was made even more significant by the announcement of the landmark Sir Bu Nuair Island project. The island is one of the most important ecological and heritage sites in Sharjah and through this project we aim to develop it into a major tourism destination in the Emirate, the UAE, and the region that will further encourage growth in Sharjah's burgeoning tourism sector and make a definite contribution to the Emirate's GDP." He went on to add, "The Authority also held a number of highly successful meetings with representatives from other participating delegations, including government entities, travel solution providers, and investors during which we discussed future collaborations on projects and initiatives to further increase mutually beneficial cooperation. We also made use of the opportunity to promote Sharjah's extensive tourist offering and wide variety of tourism related investment opportunities." HE Marwan Al Sarkal was also invited to take part in the inaugural session of the seminar programme at ATM 2013. The session, which was titled '20 years: Now, Then and Tomorrow', gave an overview of the many achievements of Dubai and the UAE over the last 20 years in terms of developing its travel, tourism, aviation and hospitality infrastructure. The session included a panel discussion that explored the UAE's plans for the next 20 years in terms of developing its travel and tourism infrastructure and elevating its status as a world-class destination for leisure and business travel. Shurooq's tourism projects caught the attention of local and international media throughout the exhibition's run. Newspapers, radio and TV channels were keenly interested in the volume and quality of the authority's portfolio of projects. The show provides an established international platform allowing exhibitors to reach high value customers, build their brands, and access excellent networking opportunities.
