Shurooq concludes participation in World Travel Market 2014
Series of matchmaking meetings conducted with investors and key industry players The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) has wrapped up its participation in the World Travel Market (WTM 2014), the leading global event in the travel industry, held at Excel Exhibition Centre in London, on a confident note. Shurooq's participation in the major travel event – under the umbrella of Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) – comes amid Sharjah’s celebration as the 2014 Islamic Culture Capital and in the wake of the selection of Sharjah as the Capital of Arab Tourism for Year 2015. This year's fruitful participation is in line with the Authority's outreach strategy to further bolster the Emirate's presence in Europe's tourism market and promote Sharjah as a leading investment and tourist destination on the global stage. The authority was represented by a high-level delegation, which was led by Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, COO of Shurooq, and included Sultan Mohamed Shattaf, Al Qasba Manager, and Mohamed Jassim Al Sarkal, Shurooq Marketing Executive. Speaking on the outcome of Shurooq’s participation in WTM 2014, Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, said, “We made the best use of our participation in the four-day B2B event where we conducted a series of business matchmaking events and meetings with potential investors and key players in the travel industry. The World Travel Market was a precious opportunity to promote the Emirate’s business potential and showcase its tourist attractions as well as varied and unique investment opportunities to potential European investors. “Sharjah has emerged as one of the most popular tourist destinations for Europeans, especially with the number of European tourists visiting Sharjah is on the increase,” Al Qaseer said, stressing that Europe is a key feeder market for Sharjah. Al Qaseer went on to say: “WTM offered us a perfect platform to showcase Shurooq's diverse range of tourism projects, such as The Heart of Sharjah, Al Majaz Waterfront, Al Qasba, Al Montazah Amusement and Water Park, and Al Bait Hotel, among many others. A number of meetings and interactions were also held with heads and representatives of other tourism destinations and travel and tourism agencies to introduce them to what Sharjah has to offer to international travellers and investors." "During these matchmaking meetings, we also highlighted the new investment opportunities available in Sharjah's tourism and travel sector, introducing the Emirate as an attractive tourism and investment destination and also as an investor -friendly environment. We discussed with our business counterparts the wide array of business and investment opportunities that Sharjah has to offer, as well as its incentive and flexible legislation structure and facilities provided by Sharjah Government to foreign investors,” Al Qaseer noted. Shurooq was established in 2009 with the aim of achieving social, cultural, environmental and economic development on the basis of Sharjah's distinct Arab and Islamic identity, and to encourage investment by adopting the best international standards in providing quality services that help attract investors from the region and the world. Shurooq's key mission is to provide facilities and incentives to help overcome obstacles facing investment activities in the emirate, evaluate investment-related infrastructure projects, and lay down the necessary plans to complete such projects. In recognition of its overall accomplishments, Shurooq was named The Banking Awards 2013 – and 2014 FDI Agency of the Year in the MENA region, in the European’s Global Banking and Finance Awards.
