Additional 4,700sq.m allocated for construction of eight restaurants and cafes
The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) has announced that 60 percent of the construction work on the Al Majaz Waterfront development project, which will be the central park of Sharjah, has been completed, excluding the 4,700 square metres allocated for the construction of eight new high-class restaurants and cafes with exquisite views overlooking the Khalid Lagoon and the Musical Fountain. Commenting on the project, H.E Marwan Jassim Al Sarkal, Shurooq CEO, said the Al Majaz Waterfront Development has begun taking shape, with work going on nonstop to ensure handover of the first phase can take place in the last quarter of this year. He added that some amendments have been made to the project, including the addition of amenities, and that infrastructure works are now complete. According to Al Sarkal, 4,700 square metres of the project are available for lease as part of Shurooq's plan to set up a number of restaurants and cafes on the banks of Khalid Lagoon opposite the Musical Fountain, which will be built in the centre of the park. Spaces offered for lease range from 150 to 710 square metres across one or two floors. He noted that construction work on the buildings began in January. "So far we are on schedule for the completion of the linking of the Al Majaz Waterfront and Khalid Lagoon and on the semi-circular road and the parking lots. The next stage includes the installation of a giant musical water fountain in Khalid Lagoon, opposite the Al Majaz Waterfront, as well as the construction of new buildings to house services and facilities such as restaurants, cafes and recreational areas will also be established. Special safe areas for children will also be developed as part of the landscaping," Al Sarkal added. He explained that the final master plan for the Al Majaz Waterfront includes numerous facilities that will make the development an integrated family park that will be a top destination for tourists, visitors and residents. The project offers open areas designated specifically for children, areas set aside for cultural and entertainment activities, a magnificent mosque with a modern architectural design, special areas for walking, jogging and cycling, a sculpture garden, an arts area for children, a dancing fountain, public amenities, parking for 1,000 vehicles, and sidewalks. The Dh100 million Al Majaz Waterfront is the fruit of Shurooq's work to encourage investment and tourism in Sharjah, and is carried out with the aim of constructing a grand leisure park that complies with international standards, in cooperation with Sharjah government departments and establishments, as well as international companies. The waterfront project is spread over an area of 21,460 square metres with the first phase occupying 11,240 square metres and the second phase extending over 10,220 square metres. The Al Majaz Waterfront is located on the Khalid Lagoon in the heart of one of Sharjah's most vital and popular areas, which is the location for a number of the emirate's most high-profile events, such as the Sharjah Ramadan Festival, the Sharjah Water Festival, the Sharjah Lights Festival and the UIM Formula One Powerboat World Championship - Sharjah Grand Prix.
