Shurooq announces operation of City Sightseeing Sharjah tour buses

January 22, 2013

The buses have been specifically designed to accommodate the weather conditions of the region, with a convertible rooftop that can be removed during winter months for an open top tour experience or kept in place to ensure a fully air-conditioned interior for comfortable summer tours. Shurooq has also made it easy for tourists to purchase tickets for the service which can be bought at hotels and at tour bus stops. On the occasion, Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, Chief Operating Officer of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), said, "We have already started the operation of City Sightseeing Sharjah tours, a move that comes in line with Shurooq's strategy for 2013, as well as with its commitment to continually add value to Sharjah's tourism experience. This step also comes in harmony with other steps, as the Authority has already embarked on a master plan to develop the Emirate's tourism sector, most notably the marine tourism industry, as well as other significant sectors." "The new service has been widely welcomed by visitors, tourists, UAE citizens and residents, as the new buses have added a new value to the magnificent aesthetics of Sharjah. The service is also helping to highlight Sharjah's premier tourist attractions and heritage sites, as well as the immense efforts being exerted by all sectors involved in tourism in presenting Sharjah's development to the world," Al Qaseer said. "We expect to see a quick increase in the number of holiday makers making use of this service in light of the programme of bus tours, which has been designed to suit a range of tastes, with special care taken to cater to the needs of families," he added. Al Qaseer clarified that the bus service will make 18 stops at tourist and cultural destinations across Sharjah. The scheduled stops will include the Central Souq, Marbella Resort, Al Noor Mosque, Al Majaz Waterfront, Buhaira Corniche, Al Qasba, Sharjah Aquarium, Al Khan Corniche/Beaches, the Fish Market, the Heart of Sharjah, the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization, Radisson BLU Resort, Clock Square, and Mega Mall. Each tour will take about one hour and 15 minutes to complete, with passengers having the option to get on and off the bus at any of the stops many times as they please within the 24 hour validity of their ticket. The buses will also include an audio guide, which can be used through the headphone available inside the buses. The audio guide will explain the significance of the various historical sites in German, Russian, English and Arabic. Five more languages - Chinese, Spanish, Urdu, Hindi, and French - are to be added in the future. City Sightseeing Sharjah was launched by Shurooq in cooperation with "City Sightseeing Worldwide", one of the world's premier city tour providers, globally recognised for adopting outstanding international standards in its services.
