The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) announced the launch of its exclusive Khorfakkan Resort & Spa project on the first day of the 18th annual Arabian Travel Market.
HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, visited Shurooq's stand, where he was given a detailed presentation about Khorfakkan Resort project delivered by HE Marwan Bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Shurooq. Having previously hinted that the Authority may reveal a number of new projects as part of its participation in the event, H.E. Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Shurooq said: "Shurooq's participation in the Arabian Travel Market is in line with its objective of promoting the emirate of Sharjah as a leading regional investment and tourism destination. In line with this objective we are delighted to announce the launch of the Khorfakkan Resort & Spa." Disclosing details of the project, he said: "Situated on a natural hillside beside a private cove with a white sandy beach, the Khorfakkan Resort & Spa is sure to become a much sought-after retreat. Inspired by the region's traditional architecture and way of life, it will feature a five-star luxury resort and amenities catering to a discerning audience." According to Al Sarkal the project will consist of two interlinked concepts - a Fort that will be open for public and a 170-suite resort for guests. Al Sarkal revealed that Shurooq is negotiating with a number of international five star hotel operators to manage the resort. The results of the negotiation will be announced later in a press conference. The Fort, located on the hilltop, will serve as the primary entry point into the exclusive resort and will house a reception area, dining facilities, a swimming pool, a spa and gym, restaurants and business services while the 170-suite "hill town" will offer exclusive accommodation - set along the natural gradients of the hillside - with unspoilt ocean views. A strategically located town square with cafes and restaurants will cater for guests who prefer to stay on the beach during the day while the plaza will become a secondary focal point to the Fort at night by offering an informal and relaxed environment. The site for the resort was chosen based on the fact that it surrounds a small scenic bay with a beach overlooking the Indian Ocean and, while offering great views out to sea and back towards Shark Island, the orientation of the bay and beach allows it to be secluded from the external environment. Shurooq is set to meet with various delegations, representatives of hotels, travel and tourism agencies, as well as investors during ATM to discuss new avenues of cooperation within the tourism sector, and to familiarise them with Shurooq's projects and developments. Shurooq was established in 2009 with the aim of achieving social, cultural, environmental and economic development on the basis of Sharjah's distinct Arab and Islamic identity. The Authority aims to encourage investment by adopting the best international standards in providing quality services that help attract investors from the region and the world. Its key mission is to provide necessary facilities and incentives, overcome obstacles facing investment activities in the emirate, evaluate tourism-related infrastructure projects, and put in place the necessary plans to complete such projects.
