Implementing the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to establish national and tourist destinations in the Emirate of Sharjah’s four cities, the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) inaugurated the Flag Square in Khorfakkan on September 2, 2014. The event marked the celebrations of the 43rdUAE National Day, another shining chapter in the history of Emirati citizens, which underlines their support and endorsement ofthe Union and its achievements towards growth and prosperity.
The UAE flag was raised high on the imposing 75-meter flagpole, the fifth in the Emirate of Sharjah. It has pride of place on a hilltop that overlooks the entrance of the city, providing a stunning vista of the surrounding rock-mountains and the coastline.
Shurooq is keen to transform the flag squares into special destinations through the on-going development and establishment of state-of-the-art facilities, transforming them into national attractions, ideal for hosting national celebrations and ceremonies as well as tourist destinations that attract visitors from inside the country and abroad.
